As you climb Olivers Hill from Frankston on the Nepean Highway the coastal and bushland beauty of Mount Eliza becomes apparent.

Until the past 20 years, this wooded township on Daveys and Canadian Bays was largely restricted to the beach side of the highway. These days it sprawls over the granite hill, from which easterly views of the Moorooduc Plains are also available.

A general store and post office were established during the 1920’s, when Walter Burleigh Griffin designed the town’s prestigious Ranelagh Estate. From the early 1950’s the township began to grow, predominantly as a fashionable seaside destination for Melburnians. Mt Eliza achieved international fame during the 1950’s when it featured in the Gregory Peck-Ava Gardner film ‘On the Beach’.

In the 1960s and 70s it assumed its present character as a prestigious residential area, which is also reflected in a good number of high-quality shops lining Mt Eliza way.
