On the banks of the mighty Murray River lie historic river port towns which offer wine, jazz, fishing, boating or simply lazing and, the Barmah State Forest where ancient Red River Gums dip their leaves.
These areas are popular holiday destinations ideal for camping, hiking, swimming, boating and all things outdoors.
The iconic Murray River wanders past wetlands with a large variety of birds. The river winds through the forest areas, where kangaroos and emus can be seen in the wild.
The town of Kyabram is situated between Echuca and Shepparton and is home to the Kyabram Fauna Park. This very popular wildlife park is a 55 hectare reserve which houses 500 species of wildlife along with free-roaming kangaroos, emus and hides to observe a variety of water birds.
Echuca itself is a historic town located 206 kilometres north of Melbourne which is approximately a 2 1/2 hour drive. The town boasts heritage buildings, riverboats, and fantastic shopping and dining.Photos
