Mildura sits on the Murray River; the river itself affords many delights-nostalgic cruises in a regal old paddle steamer, swimming or skiing or simply soaking up the sun. And for those that seek something a little more sophisticated, Mildura has many special treats in store.
Many come to Mildura now to dine at Stefano's, recipient of Victoria's most prestigious restaurant award. The Jazz and Wine Festival in November combines the best of Australian modern and traditional jazz with the opportunity to sample the region's fine wines plus many more festivals.
Take a trip along the Murray in the gracious old paddle steamer, Rothbury, to Trentham Estate. This pretty boutique winery on the shore of the river has a cellar door where you can sample choice, award winning wines and a delightful restaurant and bbq facilities. At Sunbeam or Angas Park you can learn how the quality fruit of the region is grown and processed.
Mildura offers easy access to locations including the mysterious sandhills of Mungo National Park, a sublime, ancient environment and the Mallee with its abundant wildlife, rugged outback scenery and striking sunsets. Expeditions to Mungo or Mallee National Parks like Hattah-Kulkyne are sure to reward the adventurous explorer.
