Benambra is about 22kms north of Omeo and on the edge of Lake Omeo which, depending on the season, may not have a lot of water in it, nonetheless it is an important landmark. The image on the right shows the view from Mt Sam(or Sam hill) near Omeo with Omeo Valley directly below Mt Sam and Lake Omeo and Benambra in the distance.
As you descend onto the plains about half way to Benambra the scenery is breathtaking and you pass through Hinnomunjie, this once thriving settlement still hosts Bush Races during the Labour Day long weekend each March.
From Benambra you can continue towards Corryong (about 130km) or take the Limestone Road toward McKillops Bridge and the Snowy River National Park but you may wish to do an interesting loop back towards Omeo via Omeo Valley and have a look at the historic Hinnomujie Bridge on the Mitta Mitta River.
