Weather for Bright

Located long the Ovens River in the valley below Mt Buffalo, Bright is notable for its imposing scenery. Each year the deciduous trees in the town and surrounding countryside put on a display of autumn colour, a legacy of the pioneers who planted avenues of elms, chestnuts, poplars and scarlet oaks.

At any time of year you can explore the historic buildings and mining sites, which are interesting clues of the valley town's gold rush beginnings.

Central to the Alpine National Park and within a short drive from the snowfields of Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buffalo, the area also offers a fantastic range of year round outdoor activities.

The gold mining history of the Ovens Valley is still evident at Wandiligong on Morse’s Creek, about 5km out of Bright. As you follow the tracks of the valley, it's hard to imagine that it was once a hive of mining activity with more than 3000 people seeking their fortune.

Make use of the many walking and bicycle paths to explore the whole area. There are great vantage points from which to view the valley and surrounding mountains. Along the river trails you will find fishing spots and swimming holes, like the one at Centenary Park in Bright that has a water slide.
