Eildon is located north of the Great Dividing Range and is approximately 160km northeast of Melbourne. It is Victorias most popular inland boating and fishing destination. It has become very popular for a relaxing weekend away from the busy city life and a great place to spend that longer annual vacation with family and friends.

A shoreline of 515kms and a capacity of 2,290,000 megalitres, a surface area twice that of Port Phillip Bay, Lake Eildon holds 6 times the amount of water of Sydney Harbour.

A variety of quality accommodation ranging from Motels, Hotels, Holiday Flats, Bed & Breakfast, Caravan Parks with on site units and camping are available together with a number of restaurants and cafes to service your needs.

With over 800 permanently moored houseboats on the Lake, and many speedboats and other watercraft available, Eildon is the ideal place to spend time in the fresh country air. Houseboats, which can accommodate 10 or more people, ski boats and fishing boats are available for hire or you can launch your own at the Public Ramp at Jerusalem Creek, which also provides ample parking area. If you prefer just to relax, you can book a cruise on the MV Eildon Explorer or with Eildon Lake Charters.

Horse riding, bush walking and 4-wheel driving are becoming more popular with the many tracks available to explore around the Lake. An abundance of wildlife inhabits the Lake Eildon National Park. Close to town there is a pleasant walk around the Lower Pondage, where you can feed the swans as you amble around a track.

Fishing on Lake Eildon:

Fishing in Eildon is an all year sport, even in the closed season when fishing is available in both the Eildon Pondage and the main part of Lake Eildon. Rainbow and brown trout, as well as redfin and other native species give good sport for that keen angler. If you are unable to catch that elusive fish, visit the Eildon Trout Farm, where you can either catch your own fish or purchase one from the shop, fresh or smoked.

A visit to the Freshwater Discovery Centre will give you an insight into the breeding of native fish and the children can tickle a trout in the touch tank situated in the aquarium. Lake Eildon, the Eildon Pondage, Goulburn, Big River, Acheron and Rubicon Rivers give a great choice of waterways, and the disabled are catered for at the Eildon Pondage with a pier constructed by the Lions Club to enable wheelchair access over the water.

Picnic and barbecue facilities are also available nearby at the Lions Rotunda on the Pondage and in the Shopping Centre. If you would like tuition in fishing, lessons are available from Blackridge Fly Fishing School or Goulburn Valley Fishing Centre and Brian's Fishing Trips and Tuition.
