The small town of Gembrook is located only 12 km’s east of Emerald and is the eastern terminus for the famous Puffing Billy railroad from Belgrave.

Gembrook takes it name from the Gembrook Mining Company, which was responsible for the extraction of numerous gemstones from the area in the 19th century. It is a popular commuter area for Melbourne people.

The town is situated on the southern most ridge of the Yarra Valley, right next to the beautiful Bunyip State Park. It affords superb views to the north, south and west and the surrounding countryside and parks ideal for picnics.

Gembrook has a distinctive traditional character, which is complemented by a lovely country pub, pottery and art galleries, tearooms and country shops.
