Sassafras, an attractive Dandenong Ranges village, is located within a peaceful bushland setting just south of Olinda. Popular as a weekend escape from the city, Sassafras is only 45km drive from the Melbourne CBD.
The village boasts a diverse collection of cafes, antique and craft shops, as well as boutique restaurants and stylish accommodation.
Visitors can choose from over 300 varieties of tea and a large range of teapots at Tea Leaves, or enjoy a fabulous Devonshire Tea at Miss Marples, an English Tudor style house which was inspired by Agatha Christie.
Sherbrooke and Dandenong Ranges National Park boast stunning forest walking trails, sun-dappled fern gullies, cascading waterfalls and a number of well equipped picnic areas. Sherbrooke Forest has a towering cover of mountain ash trees, and is perhaps most famous for its lyrebirds.
The 13km Sassafras Creek Forest Trail, winding along the stream through beautiful scenery to Emerald, is a great way to get reacquainted with nature.Photos
