Just 22km east of Marysville, in the Dandenong ranges is Lake Mountain, Melbourne’s premier cross country skiing destination. Fantastically positioned for snow adventures during winter, Lake Mountain is also surprisingly appealing in the warmer months.

At 1480m Lake Mountain is a popular destination for day-trippers from the city and those seeking a getaway not too far from home. During the warmer seasons 37kms of grassy ski trails are populated with abundant wildflowers. Bushwalking, bike riding and sight seeing are popular activities enjoyed by many visitors who realise the unique scenery and views of Melbourne and the Victorian Alps. The area also provides a cooler climate from the city and many people find it an excellent place to rejuvenate.

There is a diverse range of other activities around Lake Mountain. Try the trout farms abundant with fish, the stunning floodlit waterfalls, touring routes around the enchanted village of Marysville, a sculpture garden and a granite archway built in the 1800s. The Dandenong villages and Yarra Valley are also easily accessible from Lake Mountain.

Despite the excellent alternative activities that Lake Mountain has to offer, it really remains a Mecca for ski and snow play enthusiasts. The 2400ha of skiable area at Lake Mountain officially opens in mid June and weather dependant run through to October. There is a total of 37km of cross country ski trails and 7 toboggan slopes.
