Stretching from Cervantes, just north of Perth up to Exmouth, the Coral Coast is home to some of Australia's premier adventure and eco-tourism experiences. The Shark Bay World Heritage area and Ningaloo Marine Park, Mt Augustus and Kennedy Ranges are just some of the world-famous natural attractions.
Stay in the coastal town of Exmouth with its luxury resorts, self contained houses and apartments or backpackers for the budget conscious. Visit the spectacular Ningaloo Reef from North West Cape where you can walk straight off the beach and swim to the coral reef. A range of tours are available including fishing charters, kayaking, snorkelling and diving trips to see the magnificent Whale Sharks, Manta Rays and Dugongs. Whale watching tours also take place between August and early November. Nearby Cape Range National Park is a must see with its gorges, deep canyons, creeks and wildlife such as the red kangaroo and emus.
Shark Bay World Heritage is an area full of rugged beauty, spectacular coastal scenery and marine life including the popular Monkey Mia at Denham where you can get close to the Bottlenose Dolphins. 375km to the south of Denham, the beautiful Kalbarri National Park is an area rich with hiking trails, rugged rock formations, wildflowers, gorges and coastal cliffs, where you can spot whales in season from the lookout. Another 2 hours drive further south is the town of Geralton where trips to the Abrolhos Islands are popular with the experienced open water diver for its coral reef formations and shipwrecks.
The Pinnacles Desert at Nambung National Park in Cervantes is a unique attraction with its coastal dune systems, limestone formations. There are some great spots for swimming, fishing and snorkelling at Hangover Bay which can be accessed by 4WD only.
Indian Ocean Drive is at the southern end of the Coral Coast and extends from Cervantes to Kalbarri with quaint fishing villages and unspoilt beaches along the way.Photos
