The stretch of coast from Cervantes to Kalbarri is popular with WA residents for small boat and beach fishing. Towns such as Jurien Bay and Dongara north of Perth have simple facilities for relaxing ocean-side holidays with attractions like fishing, reef diving, surfing, wind surfing, yachting and unspoiled beaches.
Cervantes is famous for the eerie Pinnacles nearby, limestone formations that seemingly push out of the flat and dusty earth. Visitors can view The Pinnacles via a 5km road through the park area.
Some towns are simply villages with lobster boats and pleasure craft at moorings or in a marina. However, Kalbarri in the north has a range of accommodation and dining options for holidaymakers, with dramatic coastal and inland gorges stretching for 150 kilometres. Kalbarri National park includes the Murchison River Gorges – stark sandstone cliffs that can be explored via a 3 hour round-trip walk.
Those travelling north-south on the Indian Ocean Drive will pass sheltered bays, agricultural land and sand dunes at times visible to the west. In season (from later August to December) wildflower meadows stretch for miles, offering an abundance of colour which explodes at sunset.

The final section of Indian Ocean Drive linking Perth direct to Cervantes and Jurien Bay is now complete Cervantes is now less than 200kms from Perth, just take Wanneroo Rd at the Joondalup Drive intersection and keep going
