Torbay is a small township situated 25 km west of Albany. Torbay and surrounds are located the eastern fringe of famous Karri forest regions. This is evidenced by a number of farms that have significant blocks of remnant tall forest. The Torbay area is also characterised by large granite outcrops. Where streams occur, they are clean and clear but brown in colour from high-tannin-content in the surrounding vegetation.
The Torbay bay is found between the West Cape Howe National Park and the Torndirrup National Park. Popular beaches on the bay include Torbay Inlet, Perkins Beach and Cosy Corner. The popular beaches on the bay tend towards fine white sand and are a great place to soak up the sunshine and while to warmer months away. Cosy Corner is the most well known, suitable for families with picnic facilities and a shop close by. Children's swimming lessons are held at the beaches in summer. These beaches are all accessible by normal car, and there are more beaches that are 4WD access only. For the 4WD enthusiast, the Bibbulmun Track passes around the edge of the bay, from the steep hills above Cosy Corner and follows the beach around across Torbay Inlet to near Muttonbird Island.
The town itself is a busy little area with dairy farming, beef cattle, some specialist horticulture and arts and crafts, along with other rural businesses flourishing around the town centre. There is a regular market at the Torbay Hall.
