Pinjarra is the centre of the Shire of Murray, is one of the oldest towns in Western Australia and lies on the banks of the Murray River, along the South West Highway.
Although the district had been settled since the early 1830's, large tracts of land remain untouched and have an air of peace and tranquillity.
Located just 86km south of Perth, this is the perfect destination for a quiet holiday or a stopover on your way along the Great Southern Highway.
Historic buildings of colonial architecture, beautifully restored, abound and the dignified steam engines of the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway are ready to take visitors on a nostalgic journey through lush farmlands, up the dramatic and beautiful Darling Scarp and into the forest of Dwellingup, the steam only running May to October.
One of the major attractions of the area is the famous Peel Zoo, which provides a hands-on experience for its visitors. Privately funded, the zoo has a focus on education and conservation, and is well worth a day out!
For a relaxed day, a visit the Heritage Rose Garden is also very worthwhile. This place boasts a rose that is a descendant of a plant dating back to 3000 BC and is the oldest cultivated rose in existence!
If its action you want, Pinjarra has both thoroughbred and harness racing, an excellent golf course, skydiving and a multitude of activities to stir the senses.
