Inland from Port Headland is Marble Bar, known as Australia's hottest town. It has a rich and fascinating history with some majestic old buildings that are testimony to the town's early prosperity.
A very historic town, the many buildings and remnants of the past including the Government Buildings 1896 costing 7949 pounds, 11 shillings and twopence to complete, Comet Gold Mine and the Corunna Downs Airbase which was one of the best kept secrets of World War II.
The natural beauty of the area and scenery leave many places to be explored, the Marble Bar and pool, this is a stunning display of jasper which settlers mistook for marble. Chinaman's Pool picnic area, Jasper deposit allowing visitors to take a souvenir from this area. There are many gorges surrounding Marble Bar. Coppin's Gap, Kitty's Gap and Doolena Gorge mostly accessible by 4WD only.
There are also some magnificent views over the landscape from Flying Fox Lookout... just a few kilometres out of town.
No visit to Marble Bar is complete without a seeing inside the Iron Clad Hotel. It is the original town hotel and its interior features corrugated cladding on the walls.
