Busselton, judged Western Australia's top tourist town in 1995 and 1996, is still the state's premier seaside resort town. Sheltered from most prevailing winds and boasting 30km of sandy beaches, it's an aquatic playground remarkable for the variety it offers. The tranquil waters of Geographe Bay are perfect for fishers, water skiers, scuba divers, snorkellers and sailors.

A landmark feature of the town is the two kilometre jetty, the longest wooden structure in the Southern Hemisphere. The jetty lies in the path of warm ocean currents, resulting in prolific fish and stunning coral formations on the submerged pylons. It is renowned as a snorkelling and scuba diving site.

Visitors can enjoy the jetty scenery by taking the two kilometre walk or riding the tourist train that operates daily (weather permitting). Located at the start of the jetty is the new Interpretative Centre which offers a wide variety of gifts, souvenirs, heritage artifacts and informative displays on the history and ecosystem of the Busselton Jetty.

Busselton makes an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding area, in particular, the Margaret River Wine Region, which extends westward from Busselton in the north to Augusta in the south. Over the last 20 years the region's wine industry has been booming, with the establishment of many vineyards that produce award-winning, premium table wines. These enterprises now supplement the traditional dairy, cattle, sheep and crop farming industries.
