Beijing

Beijing, also known as Peking is not only the capital but it is also the cultural and educational centre of the People’s Republic of China. Located in the north of China, it is a huge transportation hub and is the main port into China.

This ancient city has a history rich in politics and society and is one of the most visited cities in the world.

Visit the Forbidden City – the world’s largest palace complex and the ancient Ming and Qing Dynasties. Located at the north end of Tiananmen Square and surrounded by a 10 metre high wall and 6 metre deep moat.

Also worth a visit is the Temple of Heaven, this is even bigger than the Forbidden City. Built as a sacrifice for heaven, it is also surrounded by a wall that symbolises heaven and earth, like most ancient architecture in Beijing, it truly is spectacular.
