Cook Islands

The Cook Islands, located in the heart of the Polynesian triangle, has a land mass of just 240 square kilometres, with a total of 15 islands. With a perfect balance of low coral atolls and mountainous ranges, the Cook Islands are a beautiful tropical holiday destination.

Rarotonga is the main island of the group, with the international airport and a buzzing city. It has fabulous mountain ranges with lush rainforest and a shoreline that is completely surrounded by a reef. The reef keeps the inner water protected and is great for snorkelling, glass bottom boats, sailing and kite surfing.

The mountains offer great hiking and the town has interesting historical walks, suitable for all levels.

Rarotonga only has 2 main roads and the best way to get around is motor scooter, however cars and bikes are for available for hire.

A visit to the Cook Islands wouldn’t be complete without visiting Aitutaki. This gorgeous island is surrounded by crystal clear water and the whitest of sand. Here you do nothing but relax, take in the scenery and float in the warm tropical water. Flights operate daily from Rarotonga and there are several cruise operators that do daily and weekly trips.

Another island well worth a visit is Atiu, island of the birds. It is the 3rd largest island, is home to 4 villages and is surrounded by a raised coral reef called Makatea. Here you will find sandy coves, limestone caves, great snorkelling and Makatea Forest, home to unique and abundant bird life.
