Paris, the glittering capital city of France, is the epitome of elegance, refinement and creativity. Home to the Louvre Museum, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, positioned at the summit of the butte Montmartre, Paris has more than a few surprises up its sleeves.
When you think of Paris, it's usually the Eiffel Tower that first springs to mind. Built for the 1889 world fair 'Exposition Universelle', the tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world; attracting millions of visitors annually. Day or night, it's the best viewpoint of the city.
The Arc de Triomphe, another well known haunt, is the world's largest traffic roundabout and the meeting point of 12 avenues. It's a chaotic sight that makes you wonder how there can be so few accidents. Tickets to the viewing platform can be bought in an underground passageway surfacing on the even-numbered side of the Champs Élysées.
Paris is a multi-faceted city that takes more than a few days to truly experience. Points of interest include the exquisite Sainte Chapelle, the Catacombs of Paris Museum, the Rodin Museum and the Louvre, said to be the world's greatest art museum.
Parisians are labelled as unwelcoming, stressed and arrogant... but they are also said to be the consummate lover, the carefree spirit who can’t be tamed. Which is it? You’ll have to decide yourself, but keep an open mind; who knows, you may find love beneath the Eiffel Tower.
