With a changing political system, problems with gangs and HIV/AIDS, and now illegal logging becoming a main concern, it is not problem free. However, the general public are friendly, the beaches are gorgeous, snorkelling stunning and there are Howler Monkeys and birds galore.
Utila is often frequented by backpackers because of the excellent and low cost accommodation and amazing diving. For nature lovers there are lush national parks with some of the most beautiful birds you will ever see and pretty waterfalls in the lakes region of Lago de Yojoa.
With a hot and humid climate almost all year round, Honduras is a fascinating destination for those with an open mind.
