When you think of Italy, a few places immediately spring to mind - the Colosseum and St Peters Basilica in Rome, villas in Tuscany and the glistening canals of Venice. Beyond these stunning locations however, there is a world of beauty, history and culture waiting to seduce.

If you've seen classic movies such as Roman Holiday and La Dolce Vita, chances are you’ve already seen a lot of The Eternal City. Some of Rome's most popular attractions are the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, Trevi Fountain, Vatican City, the Pantheon, Mouth of Truth, Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II and more... in fact, there are so many things to see that you'll probably have to visit a few times to experience it all.

If you want to see more of the real Italy, it's best to rent a car and explore on your own. Whether staying in a 700yr old Tuscan castle, cycling along the medieval walls of Lucca, or hiking through Cinque Terre (a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera), Italy is a remarkable country to explore. Don't forget your phrase book though, not everyone speaks English.

The Amalfi Coast is widely considered to be Italy's most beautiful stretch of coastline. With towering cliffs, turquoise waters, and old-fashioned villages terraced into hillsides, it's bound to summon feelings of passion and romance. Famous towns include Amalfi, Positano, and Ravello.
