Jordan is a kingdom on the East Bank of the River Jordan, bordering Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria and Israel. The ancient Nabataean city of Petra is the major draw card for most people, it's one of the New 7 Wonders, but if you're willing to delve a little deeper there's so much more to see.
From ruined Roman cities and Crusader castles, to desert citadels and powerful biblical sites - Jordan is an incredibly diverse nation set against a backdrop of red desert sands and the azure blue Gulf of Aqaba. The Dead Sea is located an easy day trip from both Amman and Aqaba, and is known for its incredibly salty water (you'll float on the surface), the mineral rich mud that lines the shore, and the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Jordan is probably the safest and most stable country in the region. The capital city of Jordan, Amman, is a fascinating blend of the old and new. Other points of interest include Ajlun Castle; Jerash, famous for its ancient Roman architecture; and The Temple of Hercules, in Amman.
