Located off the coast of Africa, Mauritius, put simply, is paradise on earth; stunning beaches, towering mountains and virgin forests, warm and welcoming people, delicious food, great music and its capital Port Louis, is Africa’s wealthiest city.

Sure lazing by the beach and pool is a popular past time for tourists, but there is so much more to do than relax. At the heart of the island are some of the most spectacular mountains you will ever see. Black River Gorges National Park and Moka Mountains offer lakes, volcanic craters, amazing views, hiking and trekking trails and gorges. There are also lots of villages to check out, from fishing villages like Mahebourg to Flacq where the people of the east come together, both offer terrific open air markets.

Blue Bay is ideal for snorkelling and for taking a trip in a glass bottom boat. Just a short boat trip from Port Louis, the water is the bluest you will ever see and the sand, a perfect white. It is a popular spot with locals on the weekends, so midweek is often the best time to visit.

The climate is typically tropical with only 2 seasons; winter and summer. Cyclones are possible between November to April, so it is generally best to travel outside of this time. The West tends to be hotter, the East tends to be the windiest and the cooler months are between June and August.
