Lisbon

Lisbon is the capital city of Portugal and one of the most colourful cities in Europe. Set between the coast and the hills, Lisbon is known for its relaxed, easy going and no-fuss atmosphere, perfect for a stress free European holiday.

Lisbon is host to two UNESCO world heritage sites; Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. Both of which are a must see on any Lisbon itinerary. If you only have a short time in this stunning city be sure to explore the Gothic cathedrals, monasteries, museums and spend some time on the popular beaches.

For those with a little more time up their sleeves, there is time to visit the bustling hilltop area of Biarro Alto where almost every narrow alley is lined with warm restaurants, cafes, popular bars playing jazz, reggae and fado, and people dancing until the early hours of the morning.

There is also a great opportunity to simply lose yourself within the colourful cityscape, finding little known gems in the meandering laneways, catch one of the bright yellow trams, visit the public baths in Alfama and wine and dine at tiny patio restaurants and 1930s style cafes. Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Europe and this history is still very much alive. Though, for a youthful twist, popular nightclubs are dotted around these old buildings on the docks, in old mansions and hidden along cobbled streets. A gamut of festivals is held throughout the year and nobody can deny the shopping is fantastic.

Also, you won’t be disappointed with a day trip to the seaside region of Sintra, just to the south of Lisbon. Here visitors can explore tiny seafaring villages, tranquil coves, private beaches and friendly Portuguese charm.
