St Vincent and the Grenadines, located north of Trinidad and Tobago, is the ultimate Caribbean getaway. Comprised of 32 gorgeous islands, each outdoing the last in peace and tranquillity; SVG offers the perfect setting for romance and adventure - yachting, diving, hiking and more.
Think the area looks familiar? There's a very good reason for that. St Vincent and the Grenadines was used as the filming location for the Pirates of the Caribbean films. With clear waters, white sandy beaches and dense rainforest, it was the perfect set to bring the films to life. In a case of art imitating life, these islands were once home to real pirates.
Kingstown is the biggest city on St Vincent, and the nation's capital. Not really known as a tourist destination in itself, it acts as the main gateway for travellers heading to the outer islands. Just a short drive down the road though, you’ll reach the resort towns of Villa and Indian Bay.
While you could easily spend weeks island hopping, most people don't have that luxury. For those on a schedule, a few of the best destinations are: Mustique, an exclusive playground for movie stars and the super rich; Canouan, a beautiful hook shaped island; and the mesmerising Tobago Cays.
