The jewel in the Tendring Penninsula's crown is Harwich, though it is best known as an international ferry terminal, it is a fascinating and attractive town.
Situated on the estuaries of the rivers Stour and Orwell, Harwich has a long and distinguished history as a port; the Old Town is a conservation area because of the number of historic buildings crammed into its narrow streets and passageways.
Some of the places of interest include the High & Low lighthouses, the unique Tread Wheel Crane, the lifeboat museum and Christopher Jones’ (captain of the Mayflower) house.
