King's Lynn is an ancient port in northwest Norfolk situated near where the River Great Ouse flows into the Wash. Evidence of its importance as a medieval trading centre exists today in the attractive medieval merchants houses that surround the South Quay area and the oldest guildhall in the country, St. George's Hall.

The buildings around the town most worthy of your attention are, the Trinity Guildhall (1421) with its chequered facade and the adjacent Town Hall (1895) with its matching frontage, the Hanseatic Warehouse (1475) on the quayside, and St. George's Guildhall, which dates from 1410.

George Vancouver, the navigator who gave his name to the Canadian city, came from King's Lynn and was the son of the local deputy collector of customs.
