Fleet Street was once at the heart of the newspaper industry - the street’s connection with the press dates back to the very beginning of the 16th century.
In 1985 the first newspaper to be printed digitally appeared on British newsstands, this move rendered the printing presses of Fleet Street obsolete, and over the next few years all the big newspapers moved away.
There are a number of great old pubs in this part of town, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese is very definitely worth a visit, and was favourite haunt of Charles Dickens and Dr. Samuel Johnson. The pub is a labyrinth of corridors, cellars, bars and dining rooms that even has regulars baffled.
For a spot of history check out the great St Brides church, this fantastic building was restored by Christopher Wren. It has a crypt museum which tells the story of the six previous churches which stood here.
