Running along the southern edge of Covent Garden, and linking Trafalgar Square with Aldwych is the slightly grubby Strand, once boasted as being Europe's finest street by Disraeli in the 19th century.
Awash with offices, the only real draws on the Strand are the theatres, and the Savoy Hotel, which enjoys spectacular river views to the south, and is something of a London institution.
Guccio Gucci started working life as dishwasher there and Monet visited and stayed here alot.
