Trafalgar Square is one of London's grandest spaces - flanked on the north by the elegant National Gallery, with Pall Mall leading to Buckingham Palace, nearby Whitehall to Downing Street and Westminster and newly restored Nelson's Column surveying all.
Around the base of the column are the fantastic four giant bronze lions which were a creation of Edwin Landseer, each one is 20ft long and 22ft high. Trafalgar square is a very popualar place for protests, demonstrations and rallies it holds alot of promotion and performance events.
Trafalgar Square is home to the National Gallery, keeper of the nation’s finest art treasures. While the gallery does not charge for general admittance, it does ask for a donation towards the upkeep of the artworks, as does the adjacent National Portrait Gallery.
