Hornsey, or Crouch End as the area is also known, is slightly younger, less family orientated than Muswell Hill. It attracts the same middle class arty types who favour North London and its shops and cafes reflect this. The name itself comes from 'crux' meaning 'cross' and refers to the crossroads that use to form the basis of the original hamlet.
Finsbury Park is somewhat perplexing. It has excellent transport links - it's on both the Victoria and Piccadilly tube lines and has a main line station through to King's Cross – and it has good sized property, but it still hasn't quite made a name for itself and maintains a slightly grungy feel and reputation. Whereas Stoke Newington and Crouch End both take overspill from Islington, Finsbury Park is often overlooked.
There are sometimes music events on here and the World's End pub has live music; the Blackstock Road is probably the place to head for pubs, food and music, but nothing you would travel out of your way for without a reason.
