Putney lies on the south bank of the Thames, thanks to a great bend in the river. Twenty years ago Putney wasn't very popular being far south on the river but now with the streets of Fulham and Chelsea being saturated with bright young things, Putney is right up there with the best of them.
Putney is probably best known as the start point of the annual boat race that takes place between crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities, and has started at Putney since 1845.
The area sprang up in the Victorian and Edwardian periods, and has changed relatively little ever since. If you’re wanting food & drink, then try the Coat and Badge on Lacey Road.
