Clapham is clustered around two main hubs, the High Street area, which boasts the country’s busiest railway station in the shape of Clapham Junction, and the more village centre around Clapham Common.
During the summer months the Common is packed with people sunbathing, cycling, having a kick about or simply watching the world go by. For the last five years Clapham Common has also played host to the Sprite Urban Games, which showcases BMX, skateboarding, break-dancing and graffiti artworks.
If you favour something a little more traditional, there are plenty of time-honoured pubs that should satisfy you. The Abbeville, on Abbeville Road, and the Fentiman Arms on Fentima Road are both safe bets. For the best of the local bars try: Sand, on Clapham Park Road; Dusk on Battersea Park Road; or mish mash on Lavender Hill. Clapham also has some excellent restaurants and eateries.
