Hemel Hempstead

Hemel Hempstead is a town of two stories, the new town built after World War II, and the historic old town. The historic old town was when the ancient St Mary's Church came about, which dates back to the 12th century, it has a 200ft timber spire. This Norman Church is considered one of the country's finest.

Nearby Gadebridge Park, is a large piece of open park land, and it features Charter Tower, this is where you'll find the last remains of a mansion house often visited by Henry VIII.

Near the railway station you will find a strange local landmark Snooks Grave, where the notorious high way man, James Snook, was the last person in England to be taken back to the scene of his crime (murdering a mail boy) to be hanged (1802). He was also buried here and a stone tablet marks the spot.
