Maidenhead

Maidenhead is a town in the English county of Berkshire. It lies on the River Thames and is situated 25.7 miles west of London. The town has a football team, Maidenhead United, who play at York Road, this is the oldest football ground in the world continuously used by the same team.

Maidenhead has an interesting history beginning from when the first bridge was built some time before 1255, when Henry III issued a road widening order. This changed the little village forever as it was suddenly on the road between London and Bristol, later to be called the Bath Road. The village started to develop by introducing stabling, a vet, and a blacksmiths and of course coaching inns like The Orkney Arms, these were required because at the time Maidenhead was one day's journey from London.

The village holds a town carnival every year in mid June, which travels along the river. It is a popular event creating large crowds and a party atmosphere, great fun for the family.
