Just 20mi from London is Windsor Castle, the Queen's official residence and the largest inhabited castle in the world. Home to the Royal Family for more than 900 years, it's a landmark that dominates the town.
The very luxurious State Apartments are home to part of the Queen’s vast art collection, and include works by Canaletto, Gainsborough, Rubens and Rembrandt to name but a few. Children of all ages will love Queen Mary’s Dolls House, built to a 1:12 scale; the meticulous attention to detail includes running water in the bathrooms.
Every monarch since William the Conqueror has added their own personal touches. The many highlights include St Georges Chapel, which contains the royal tombs of some of the most famous Kings and Queens including Henry VIII and Queen Mary. After the infamous fire at Windsor Castle in 1992, Queen Elizabeth II continued this tradition.
The town of Windsor has a great selection of bars, restaurants and pubs, many a stones through from the castle itself.
