Epping Forest is the largest open space in the London area, it is the old stomping ground of English legends Boudicca and Dick Turpin. Thanks to 19th century conservationists, the forest is now a haven for wildlife and plants.
There are numerous walks and treks, or you can try fishing, boating and mountain biking. There is also horse riding, which is very popular, with over 85km of trails. To give you an idea of the size of the forest, it accommodates 45 football pitches, and a public golf course.
Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge sits amoungst the forest it was used to watch the hunting of deer or possibly from which to shoot deer, with crossbows. It is the only remaining timber-framed Standing in England.
