This part of Essex is linked to the capital by the Tube system, and you’ll find a good number of Londoners down at Romford Greyhound Stadium, which is something of an institution locally. Chigwell boasts a number of attractive, historic buildings, but is best known as the stamping ground of Essex’s answer to ladies who lunch. Boutiques punting Versace and nail-bars abound, and the locals are unashamed in their love of flashy gear. Nearby is the massive Lakeside Shopping Centre at Thurrock, where you will find over 300 stores under one roof.
