North Buckinhamshire's character has been transformed since the war by the attempt to solve London's over-crowding. Milton Keynes swallowed thirteen existing villages to now become the country's largest new town.
Whilst visiting the area you should visit Florence Nightingales old home 'Claydon House'. It has a spectacular interior, with ornate carvings on the walls and ceilings. Its Chinese Room holds pride of place, over flowing with one the country’s largest collections of Chinese artefacts.
Stowe Gardens designed between 1715-1749 are considered by many to be the finest landscaped gardens in Europe. The gardens contain temples, alcoves, sculptures and bridges, and the celebrated Capability Brown was head gardener for ten years and designed his first major work, the Grecian Gardens, here.
