Kingston Upon Thames is a prosperous and thriving market town on the outskirts of London. The pedestrianised areas are crammed with fashion stores and lifestyle boutiques, as well as the traditional market stalls.

The town is covered with fine examples of Tudor architecture, with many original timber framed buildings still standing today. The town enjoys a bustling nightlife scene with hundreds of bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs all in close proximity to one another, and packed with local residents and students from the nearby University and Art School.

Just across Kingston Bridge takes you away from the crowds and in to quieter surroundings, which lead you to Hampton Court Palace. Just opposite the main gates is the entrance to the grounds of Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace. Before you head for the buildings themselves, take time to explore the magnificent grounds, which surround the Palace and take you down to the river.

The public are able to roam the gardens for free, which is a treat in itself, but time should be taken to visit the Royal Tennis Courts where the somewhat strange early form of the game, real tennis, was a favourite with the King.
