Rutland is Britains smallest county and is dominated by the immense Rutland Water. Its primary towns are the attractive Oakham and Uppingham. Rutland lake is a popular venue for water sports and if your in the area you should definitley check it out, they offer a range of activities including windsurfing, sailing and canoeing.
Rutland's county town is the prosperous Oakham. It is home to one of the most exclusive public schools in Britain, Oakham School, which has helped to raise the town’s profile. As far as sightseeing goes, the Norman Oakham Castle has pleasing architecture and a quirky wall filled with horseshoes.
Uppingham is largely famous for Uppingham School, another public school for the well-heeled. Uppingham has little in the way of sights but is an attractive town and a leisurely stroll around will present some lovely 18th century houses.
