In recent years Leicester has shaken off its poor image to become a city rich in culture, creativity and environmental conservation.

Leicester has long had a truly diverse population, with a large Asian influence the city has benefited from the existence of Hindu, Muslim, Jain, and Sikh communities. A great time to visit is during one of the festivals of: Holi, Diwali (festival of light) and Eid-ul-Fitr all offer a time of interesting things to do and see. The centre of the Asian community is Belgrave Road (the Golden Mile). Leicester also has a large Afro-Caribbean population and the lively 'Leicester Caribbean Carnival' on the first weekend in August is a real treat.

Leicester has a long history and as a result has a host of attractions to visit. These are generally based around Castle Park to the west of the city centre. One of England's largest Roman civil structures is Jewry Wall and the related Jewry Wall Museum will provide an entertaining few hours with interactive exhibitions on the 'Making of Leicester' and numerous mosaics and frescos.
