Kettering, on the River Ise, like Northampton is known as a leather and footwear centre, however over the last hundred years it has metamorphosised into an industrial town. In keeping with local tradition the 15th century church has a 177ft spire. A few miles to the north of the town is Broughton House, Northamptonshire home of the Dukes of Buccleuch and Queensberry. It is a lovely house and features an impressive collection of artworks.
Just outside Kettering is Wicksteed Park amusement park, where the rides and attractions are grouped into four distinct themed areas. You will find rides, arcades, lakeside walks, a laser dome and a Pavilion offering a host of ways to keep you amused.
Wakerley Great Wood is a fantastic place to explore, it's an historic ancient woodland set in Kettering. They have all-ability woodland paths, and a long waymarked trail. There is a large grassed area for games and picnicing and barbecue points are provided.
