Ashbourne is a gorgeous town set in the heart of Dove Dale, and is often regarded as the southern gateway to the Peak District. The town is packed with attractive historic buildings, and just to the south is Sudbury Hall, which houses the National Trusts Museum of Childhood. Ripley is largely an industrial town, but pottery enthusiasts will know it as home of the Denby Pottery Visitor where you can try your hand at plate painting, or even attend a cookery demonstration.
