Skegness had it's railway built in 1875 and within two years the 9th Earl of Scarborough decided to turn the town into a popular seaside resort. Four years later it had a massive pier and more visitors than you can shake a stick of rock at. Skegness offers the traditional seaside fare of donkey rides, amusement arcades, seafront gardens but its beaches are cleaner and more pleasant than most, as long as there isn’t a sandstorm raging.

On 11th April 1936 Billy Butlin opened the doors of his first ever holiday camp at Ingoldmells near Skegness. His aim was to create a deluxe holiday experience that the working man could afford; chalets with their own bathrooms, hot & cold running water and electricity were available for £1.75 a week. The Holiday Camp was a great success and more Butlins camps followed, as did a host of imitators.

To the south is the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve where you can see various breeds of bird, among them Brent goose, Knot, Oystercatcher, Wigeon, Shorelark, Red throated diver, Short eared owl, Sanderling and Rock pipit. Seals are often seen offshore and there is a seal sanctuary at North Parade.
