Shrewsbury, is in the county town of Shropshire, it is one of England’s finest Tudor towns. Situated in a loop of the River Severn that almost makes an island of it, there are ten bridges carrying people in and out of the town.

The Normans started work on Shrewsbury Castle in the late 11th century and it was continually fortified until the 14th century. The castle is now home to the Shropshire Regimental Museum and the grounds are open to the public.

Shrewsbury’s famous residents include Robert Clive, better known as Clive of India, who is reputed to have laid the foundations of the British Empire in India and was once the M.P. for Shrewsbury and Charles Darwin who was born and educated in the town. Darwin’s statue now stands outside his old school building.
