Ross-on-Wye is an historic town perched on a sandstone cliff above a bend in the River Wye, a sleepy town unchanged by modern times, it is a good base for exploring the beautiful countryside of the Wye Valley.
With that higgeldy feel of a medieval town, its centre is the market place and its Market House, dating from the 17th century, includes a Heritage Centre. Its steep streets are flanked with attractive Tudor and Georgian buildings and from the Prospect public gardens you can enjoy lovely views of the River Wye and surrounding hills.
The small town comes alive every year in August when the Ross International Festival is on, with a mix of music, theatre, dance and a fantastic display of fireworks.
