The River Wye runs down from the Welsh mountains through beautiful rolling countryside, past Hay-on-Wye and Ross-on-Wye to Chepstow where it empties itself into the Severn Estuary. The Wye Valley is a paradise for walkers, particularly the southern part much of which is heavily wooded between Monmouth and Chepstow.
If you really want to explore then The Wye Valley Walk is a 136 mile riverside bonanza that runs from Hafren Forest in Plynlimon all the way to Chepstow taking in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest en route.
There is also a range of other activities in the Wye Valley such as fishing, cycling and canoeing. The latter is particularly popular and the Wye is thought to be one of the best rivers in the country to canoe - very impressive with limestone cliffs and outcrops towering above; there are a number of companies that run guided river trips.
