Worcester is not at first glance a pretty city, but despite the obvious scar of modern development you can find some wonderful old streets with half-timbered Tudor buildings and some fine Georgian architecture if you explore. Head to Friar Street and New Street to see Worcester at its best.
Worcester's undoubted highlight is its fantastic cathedral dating originally from 1084 and it dominates the city centre. It is the final resting place of Bad King John who was responsible for the Magna Carta. There are also excellent views from the tower if you can face the climb and there is a lovely walk along the river banks below it.
Apart from world famous Worcestershire Sauce, the city of Worcester is perhaps most known for its porcelain, the production of which dates from 1751 and is still a favourite of the Queen. You can visit the Royal Worcester Porcelain Works every day of the week for a tour, museum and of course a shop.
