Sutton Coldfield was a Royal Borough and town in its own right between 1528 and 1974, when it was merged with the Birmingham Metropolitan District, though it has a very different character to the city that has absorbed it.
Sutton Coldfields main attraction is the 2, 400 acre park, which was once the property of Bishop Vesey of Exeter. Not only did the Bishop give the park to the people, he founded the local grammar school, which takes his name.
The natural parkland, which is now a nature reserve, has moorland, lakes, woodland and a golf course and is a great spot for cycling, boating, running and fishing.
