Staithes

Staithes, on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast, is a lovely fishing village that was at one time the country’s sixth most important fishing port.

Captain Cook was an apprentice grocer here but both the shop and his cottage have been washed away by severe North Sea storms.

Staithes’ charm, attracted a group of painters in the late 19th century, who became renown as the best British Impressionists and today the village is still a popular destination among artists. A few miles to the west is the dramatic sight of England’s tallest cliff face at Boulby.
